My Favorite Salad Ingredients

My Favorite Salad IngredientsI make amazing salads. I post my salads on social media and people always want to know what is in it.

So my friend Tara suggested I make a salad recipe book to “teach” her how to make a salad. I would resist every time telling her that what I like isn’t necessarily what SHE (or anyone else) would like. Plus…I’m not fancy at all and don’t understand the first thing about pairing any sort of fruit with nut or veggie with fruit or dressing with anything.

I just buy whatever I like, and throw together whatever I have left in the house (RV) at the time I want a salad.

So instead of making a recipe…which I don’t have any…I decided just to share the ingredients I love in my salads. Sometimes I have all the ingredients, sometimes I only have four of them, but any/all mixtures of any/all ingredients IN MY OPINION are delicious!!!

So basically my expert salad making advice (I have been a vegetarian for 34 years), buy ingredients you like and mix them together.

Here are mine…

Base:

  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Romaine
  • Chard

Fixings:

  • Tomato
  • Red Pepper
  • Yellow Pepper
  • Cilantro
  • Green Onion
  • Cucumber
  • Carrot
  • Bean Sprouts
  • Beets

Toppings:

  • Pistachios
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Raisins
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Dried Cherries
  • Blueberries
  • Avocado
  • Quinoa
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Termeric

Dressings:

  • Olive Oil
  • Sea Salt
  • Lemon

That is it! Simple!

My best advice for ANY salad…

MAKE IT IN ADVANCE!!!! When I come home already hungry, I will NOT make a salad. When I come home hungry and there is salad all made up, I will eat it!

My mom cuts up all the different “parts” of the salad and stores them in fancy little glass storage containers in her fridge so her salad is easy to assemble in minutes. I’m not that organized, plus we are currently using a single little room fridge so there’s no room for all that jazz, but it is a great idea.

I mix the base w the fixings in advance and then just toss on the toppings and dressing when I’m ready to eat it.

Any questions??
