But then, like most people, I started going through my schedule for the month and it didn’t seem to fit in with my traveling, my budget, or my workout schedule.
Then I convinced myself that I didn’t need to do 30 days because I’m not yet fat, sick, or nearly dead…that I am aware of. So I decided to do 7 days. But I already had a lunch meeting planned that week so it would be 6 days.
On Mondays I have to leave early and I don’t want to run the juicer while my hubby is trying to sleep. So we’re down to 5. Or 4 because there are only 4 days in a row I have available for juicing, and what’s the point if I can’t do them in a row? Oh man! I can’t start tomorrow, I don’t have any fruits and veggies in the house and by the time I wake up I am starving and have to eat immediately.
And I can’t do a half day juice right? Now I’m down to 3. Will that even make a difference in this huge change I want to implement in my life? Doubt it. I’ll just put the juicer away and do my 30 day juice cleanse next month!
Good idea! I’m so excited for all the amazing things that will come from my juice cleanse next month!!
Ugh! Sound familiar? Maybe not with juicing, but with exercise, getting up early, going to bed early, spending more time with the fam, saving money, cutting out sugar, eating more fruits and veggies, quitting smoking, making yourself a priority, the list goes on and on!
It’s easy to see how people won’t change until the pain of staying the same hurts more than the pain of changing.
That’s why most of the time people have to hit “rock bottom” in order to change. A heart attack, a divorce, loss of a loved one…big stuff! Not just an already healthy girl who wants to be healthier!!
And btw…that part above where I doubted that small changes would make an impact in my life? I was wrong! If you know anything about me at all, you know my entire life success is based on small, seemingly insignificant changes over time that compound and make my life awesome!
So I told myself to “STFU” and I decided to juice ONE meal a day for a month. This is a great way to get in all those nutrients each day without it being overly expensive, invasive, or time consuming. Come on…anyone can do one juice a day!!
Here are my favorite things about juicing…
1. Gave me lots of energy
2. Loved the taste of the juices I was making
3. Felt super healthy and maintained my weight
4. Works well with my disordered eating issues I am working on
I want to actually explain that…if nothing else for myself…to see if what I am doing makes sense…
I have emotional over-eating issues. With any type of addiction, abstinence works. I can’t NOT eat…HOWEVER…I can NOT eat all the time! I have found the month I was juicing, I maintained my weight with ease (rare) and I felt amazing. I didn’t struggle (as much) in my head with food and it felt so freeing. I would have a Shakeology for breakfast and snack and then the juice for lunch. I would eat a normal dinner. I didn’t binge the entire month. For some reason my brain doesn’t want to binge on liquid, so in a sense, I was limiting my actual “eating” and therefore not triggering my over-eating…GENIUS!! Right?
My theory was confirmed when I stopped juicing and started eating 2 meals a day, my disordered eating began surfacing again…UGH!
So here is why I stopped…
1. The juicer doesn’t fit on our counter so it’s a pain in the boot to get it out and set it up every single day
2. It’s super hard to clean in the RV sink. It doesn’t fit under the water thing or in the sink, so I’m not even sure it’s getting cleaned
3. Our #1 goal this year is to be debt-free. My biggest expense is food as it is, and juicing as I was doing it, was very expensive
4. Our fridge died a month earlier so we have a mini that won’t fit all the fruits and veggies. I was putting them on the stairs to the outside because it got cold there at night, but now it’s too warm to keep them all out
I know…lame excuses right? RIGHT! As all excuses are. Just like my “Raw Monday”, I do believe we will make happen the things that are important to us.
And I KNOW when we move back into our house and I can leave the juicer on the counter, actually wash it, and have room in our giant fridge for all our fruits/veggies, I will start juicing again. Probably not for 30 days straight, maybe not even every single day, but I will for sure make it a regular part of my nutrition plan!
Here is my fave juice recipe…
