The Truth About Weight Loss

The Truth About Weight LossAlmost every single day I have a friend, acquaintance, family member, or client ask my option on a product, program, or system they are looking at for weight loss. While I love learning about what is out there, it also frustrates and saddens me because the majority of products/programs promise quick, easy results without having to give up junk foods, add exercise, or take any extra time away from your already busy life. Many of these companies are selling either unhealthy products or crap that doesn’t even work.

The reason this makes me so sad is that I spent about 15 years of my life trying every possible diet, pill, exercise, weight loss plan, and trick out there. I bet I have spent tens of thousands of dollars hoping to find a way to love my body enough to feel confident in my own skin.

But I have bad news…quick or easy weight loss plans DO NOT EXIST!

Now I am all for weight loss!! I know these days it’s more PC to say “I want to be healthy” but to be honest I want to look good, that is important to me. So if you want to lose weight, I am IN for supporting you. So I want to tell you now that if it seems too good to be true, it is!!

If there were an easy way to lose weight, if there were a pill you just take 3 times a day, or a simple contraption to shed your unwanted belly fat, WAY more people would be thin. We wouldn’t have the health and obesity problems we have today in this country. Think about it…if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. But it’s not.

We are living in an age where food is laced with physically addictive chemicals, we are under so much stress and so busy we don’t have time to cook or chew, and our emotions and unmet needs are being filled with sugar, salt, and fat. It is harder than ever these days to slow down enough to even begin to become aware of what role food plays in our lives.

Ugh!! I could go on all day about that! But…there are 2 things I wanted to get across to you today.

The only way to lose weight is to combine eating clean whole foods with daily movement of your body. There it is! There’s the secret. I don’t want this to be miserable for you so I always recommend finding clean whole foods that you enjoy and eat more of those, and finding a fun way to move your bod daily.

If you don’t like kale, don’t eat it. If you hate to run, don’t run.

As far as programs, in my opinion, Weight Watchers and MyFitnessPal are great ways to become aware of what is going in and out of your body. Both programs let you make choices and give you immediate feedback on how your choices are affecting your health/weight loss so you can constantly learn and adjust.

In my honest opinion, if we loved ourselves more and took care of our heart and soul every single day, our bodies would crave good clean whole foods and fun activities and we would naturally be at our ideal weight. We would love our bodies, feel confident in our own skin, and be happy and content with who we are and what we have.

I know that’s a tall order…I’ve been working toward that for the past 10 years of my life and am still not there, but with love, compassion, and sharing my life and story with you, I am closer than I have ever been before, so thank you!!

And in the meantime, here are 10 things to do daily…

1. Eat an extra veggie or fruit with every meal

2. Drink a big glass of water before you eat to get more in for the day

3. Commit to spending more time doing physical activities throughout your day

4. Sleep 5 minutes more each night until you feel rested when you wake up

5. Smile when you look at yourself in the mirror

6. Hug at least 3 people every day…and don’t be afraid to linger

7. Take a deep breath immediately when you wake up and right before going to sleep

8. Tell at least one person you love them each day

9. Be grateful for everything you have in your life

10. Practice loving and forgiving yourself more and more every single day
